Tips for Successful Lactation
Small, gentle habits that can make breastfeeding more comfortable, more sustainable and far more enjoyable.
Breastfeeding is natural, but that does not mean it is automatic. Most mothers need a little support, a few good rituals and the right tools to find their rhythm. Here is what we have learned from talking with hundreds of mamas.
Latch first, everything else second
A deep, comfortable latch is the foundation of every feed. Take your time, bring baby to the breast (not breast to baby), and never be afraid to gently unlatch and start again.
Care for yourself, not only baby
- Drink water every time you sit down to feed.
- Eat warm, nourishing meals — soups, oats, stews.
- Rest when you can. Sleep is part of your milk supply.
- Wear soft, breathable cotton next to your skin.
Protect your nipples from day one
Sore, cracked nipples are not a rite of passage. Start using The B cups at the first sign of tenderness and you will give your skin the head-start it needs to heal naturally.
Build your village
If something feels off — pain, low supply, anxiety — reach out. A lactation consultant, a midwife, a friend who has been there. You are not meant to do this alone.
